It's practically a sin nowadays to suggest that sex workers have turned themselves into a commodity; for much of western history women were already goods to be bought/sold/traded, but now these women willingly and happily participate in it. It's so strange. To comment on the industry has become the equivalent of attacking the women in it; there's no room for an actual discussion on the nature of sex work and the typical 'culture' that surrounds these sex-for-sale places.
The worst part is this increasingly pervasive attitude (mostly seen on the internet) that sex work will never adversely affect you or your life, when that most decidedly isn't the case. It's out there - people are going to find it and judge you for it. Whether we want to admit it or not, society at large doesn't want former sex workers as a part of it. If a CEO was outed as being a former prostitute, she would lose her job. This whole industry is damaging no one wants to say anything - too many young girls are participating in porn the minute they turn 18 and are not considering the life-long consequences, or the sheer longevity of what is posted online. Nothing that gets posted ever really goes away. What are you going to do when you're 35 and the porn industry is no longer interested in having you? How are you going to live? How are you going to be independent? You're setting yourself up for lifelong failure, distress, stress, hardships, and so much more.
On another note - can I just say I hate polyamory so fucking much!! It's almost exclusively used in a manner to oppress women, especially historically and in modern day non-western societies. A man gets to have a harem and the women in his life are supposed to be okay with it? Ugh, just no... No. Fuck you. I didn't leave the Arab community (where women are lower than even second class citizens & polyamory is an issue) just to have the western society say "Hey, it's cool if your man cheats! He's a man, baby! It's that free love!" No. No it's not.
I thought poly was cool untill I realized that no men wanted to do it. They just wanted to date a bunch of women at the same time.
Thanks for sharing this: I’m so glad that there’s at least *one* group of women willing to talk about the potential negative impacts of prostitution (I hate the term ‘sex work‘ because it’s so sanitised) on women as a class.
I’m also extremely glad that this new website retains its criticism of the spineless, clawless, toothless dreck that makes up third wave ‘feminism,’ which puts everyone and their dicks ahead of women. Much love to the radical feminist origins of FDS.
I’m glad the topic of “sex work” is being brought up. It is baffling men have been able to spin the abuse of countless women into a quirky side job. Onlyfans, in all honesty, is just a veil covering the reality of prostitution.
Nobody wants to sell their body, these women feel they have to in order to get financial stability. Which they still don’t achieve. And most of them are trafficked. This happens in porn, too. I highly suggest you check out Laila Mickelwait on Twitter. Her account is dedicated to calling out PornHub. Warning though, it’s hard to stomach the stories.
What's sad is this notion that people with FDS opinions despise sex workers. We aren't coming for sex workers. We're trying to save victims from having to suffer in the first place. These 3rd wave feminists need to understand there are cities making “drive-thru brothels” that are identical to cattle sheds (source). In the article linked, they show a picture from one whereas it states: “respect our sexworker. they keep your women safe and your men happy”. Or in simple wording: “without prostitution men would treat you like that and just sexually assault you”. Is that not a threat?
All in all, FDS is vital nowadays. I hope more women and young girls stumble on it and learn the truth.
